A portable table top indoor weather station that measures indoor humidity is also a sound investment. They are available at most hardware outlets.
- Do not use vinyl or tile floor care products or waxes on hardwood floors. They can damage the finish or cause the floor to excessively slippery.
- Use throw rugs both inside and outside doorways to prevent grit, dirt and other debris from damaging your floor.
- Never wet mop your hardwood floor and avoid all products that introduce high amount of water or steam to the floor. Excessive use of water can damage the finish or the wood itself. Remember to use your hardwood mop only. Wipe up spills immediately with dampened cloth as standing water can damage the floor if left too long.
- Soft fabric or rubber floor protectors are a must for all furniture to prevent scuffs and scratches. Check the condition of these protectors occasionally especially under chair legs and replace if required.
- When moving furniture, avoid sliding it on the hardwood floor. It is best to pick up the furniture completely to protect the floor.
